The actual name of Ilaiyaraaja is Gnanathesikan.He is one of the finest Indian film composer who works in the south Indian cinemas.He started his career in 1970 with Tamil cinema.
He composed almost 6000 songs for  Tamil,telugu,hindi and kanada movies.
He is also a lyric writter and singer.
He introduced many singers to film industry.
Sp balasubramanyam,chitra and s janaki are popular only because of his compositions.they sang more and more songs for Ilaiyaraaja movie compositions.
Ilayaraja introduced many musical instruments for Indian cinema.
He got too many awards and rewards for his songs.
He got 5national awards for his compositions.3 for best music direction and 2 for best background score.
While comes to his family his son yuvan Shanker raja is also a music director.
